Library

The Pinnacle is growing and achieving in many wonderful ways. One place to keep your eye on is the Pinnacle’s Marie J. Hill Library under the direction of Mrs. Craige Stainton, our Library Media Specialist.

The library has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

Over the past three school years, we have been working on updating our Library and its technology available for use by students and staff.

In addition to new library shelving, acquired nearly three years ago with the help of a community business partner, our Book Fair profits have allowed us to purchase and install a mounted LCD projector and projection screen.  We purchased a lap top computer, wireless keyboard and mouse for use in the instructional area of the library.  The Spring 2010 Book Fair profits enabled us to purchase 5 new computers to update student as well as library staff accessed computers.  Currently, the Library is looking into a Document Reader to be purchased from the Library’s 2011 Book Fair Profit.  We will also be acquiring popular titles of books requested by students using Book Fair profits.

Each year, our budgeted funds have been used to purchase books and other circulating materials.  Our collection has grown from just over 9,000 volumes to over 14,000 volumes.  This year the Library has purchased a collection of books to support our reading instruction efforts. These books will be for student circulation.

Other items of interest:

Student Assistants from the Middle School grades have been selected and trained as Student Library Assistants.  The nine Fall Semester students have been learning Library organization and tasks.  They assist in shelving books and in checking in and checking out books.  They are doing a wonderful job in helping to keep the Library orderly and neat in appearance.

The Library and its staff like to work with grade levels and special programs to coordinate efforts.  The 2010-2011 school year began with teacher training for a new reading program.   Every Child A Reader (ECAR) training took place prior to students arriving in August.  Working with our PCS Literacy Coaches, the library tracking system will be used to facilitate the circulation and tracking of the newly acquired class sets used in the ECAR program.

Funding for the library upgrades comes from those fun-to-visit, fun-to-shop- Book Fairs that take place in the early winter and early spring.

A little about Ms. Stainton

Well, hello, Pinnacle!

My name is Mrs. Stainton. I am your Library Media Specialist (Librarian, to some of you). I arrived at The Pinnacle Charter School on
October 22, 2007.

During the past few years, I have been involved with a non-profit education organization specializing in fly fishing. I have also been a Banker. I missed teaching students so I made the decision to return to what I love doing…being a Library Media Specialist in a school.

In my free time, I like to read books about the Old West and India. I also like to travel, fly fish, and carve small items out of bones that I find on my fishing trips. The bones are from deer, elk, cows and other animals. All the ones I pick up are very clean because the coyotes have cleaned them off. I carve fish and dogs and other subjects that strike my fancy. Some can be worn as jewelry and some just sit on a shelf or desk.

I am very happy to be here with you and look forward to seeing you in the Library!

A little about Ms. Gayla

Hello,

I’m excited about being a part of The Pinnacle Charter School staff. I am a true native of Denver , as I was born and raised right here in the neighborhood.

Prior to coming to The Pinnacle, I worked in the non-profit sector, including a childcare center and a coalition that helped needy families in the City and County of Denver.

I enjoy spending time with my son and going to movies. I am looking forward to getting back into past hobbies, like bike riding and hiking.
